A set of four "Old King Cole" nursery rhyme paper dolls issued by Lion Coffee in the 1880s. Unused and in very good vintage condition given their age. The colors are bright on the front and the sales pitches are different and all legible on the backs. Interesting that the typography differs from card to card.

The photos on the front of the die cut cards plus the verbiage on the back:

  • #1 Old King Cole - "Some coffees sell for more, some for less but LION COFFEE is the most satisfactory" 5.5" x 4"
  • Three fiddlers  - The nursery rhyme itself plus "Did you Drink LION COFFEE for Breakfast?" 4.5" x 4"
  • A page standing by the throne holding a tray - "Take no Substiture; insist on having Lion Coffee"  5.5" x 4"
  • A Victorian collar - "LION COFFEE is the WORKINGMAN'S FRIEND  2" x 4"

Very good condition. Excellent color and fun graphics.

CONDITION:

Very good vintage condition. The standards on the three large cards have been bent.
